KHALID: Police will take the necessary preventive measures if the street rally, aimed at calling for free and fair elections, were held to topple the government.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has reminded BERSIH 4.0 organisers to ensure the rally scheduled later this month would not stray far from its original objective.
He said, police will take the necessary preventive measures if the street rally, aimed at calling for free and fair elections, were held to topple the government.
“That’s the reason I am reminding BERSIH organisers to be careful because now they are not only demanding for free and fair elections; they have already strayed from their original objective towards toppling the government through street elections.
"We will take preventive measures, don’t think we will not act," Khalid said.
The IGP said, police are still waiting for the organisers to submit the completed notification form to hold the rally.
Khalid also urged BERSIH 4.0 organisers to hold the rally at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil as the venue was more suitable in accommodating the expected 100,000 participants.
He said, Dataran Merdeka and Padang Merbok were not suitable locations as the venues were being prepared for the Merdeka Day celebrations.
