THOSE involved in the black economy are individuals with status, power and money.
Chairman of the Committee of the Malay Consultative Council (MPM), Tun Mohd Hanif Omar, said this has become one of the causes why these movements are difficult to eliminate.
"They are accepted and get a place in society because of the money factor.
"They can be a Datuk and some have now been made a Tan Sri. People like this (can get titles) are black economy operators," he said.
The former Inspector General of Police also revealed the 'underground' movement has been daring enough to offer millions of ringgit to the future Inspector General of Police.
"I heard this movement ordering former police officers who are in their hands to make an offer.
"If he (the future Inspector General of Police) cooperates and does not take action on their activities, he will get a reward but the reward is not very obvious in the eyes of the government or related parties.
"When they retire, they promise to give RM20 million, RM40 million.
"I met with the future Inspector General of Police and asked if they gave an offer. He said, there is," he said in a video interview with the Sinar Harian portal.
"I used to be in the same situation when I brought problems to them.
"They were discussing in the police canteen in Klang. There was a clerk (in the discussion) saying, what is so difficult, the IGP (Inspector-General of Police) before him was shot dead, one bullet is enough.
"Therefore, it is not an easy thing to fight them," he added.
MPM is now mobilising Gerakan Jihad Rakyat which will be a platform that provides a channel towards integrated efforts to fight corruption, organised by MPM together with several institutions and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
