The Dewan Rakyat today rejected a motion to debate issues pertaining to the Malaysia Agreement which was signed during the formation of Malaysia in 1963.

Deputy Speaker Datuk Ismail Mohamed Said ruled that there was no urgency to discuss the matter which was raised by Ignatius Dorrel Leiking (PKR-Penampang) on Monday.

In tabling the motion after the conclusion of question time, Leiking said there was a need to debate the agreement and likened it to renewing a marriage vow to enhance ties between Sabah and Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.

He said the agreement, which entailed 20 points for Sabah and 18 for Sarawak, should have been reviewed in 1973 but it was never done.
