Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will not issue any licenses to vape traders, said its licensing and petty traders management department director Ibrahim Yussof today.
He said any new applications from vape traders will be rejected, adding that as of now, only one application has been received and rejected by the council.
According to Ibrahim, although DBKL has never issued any licenses to vape retailers, but there were several cases involving the misuse of license under the electronic goods category, to sell vape.
"Actually, DBKL has never issued license to vape retailers. What we have is only license for electronic goods. I found out that there have been traders who took advantage by selling vapes under the pretence of selling electronic goods.
"I have discussed this issue with the DBKL management and we will issue a show cause letter to retailers to stop selling vapes in their premises," he said when contacted by Astro AWANI.
When asked if the move was following the footsteps of Johor and Kelantan to ban the sales of vape from January 1, Ibrahim said, it was DBKL's own decision to curb unhealthy habits.
