Cow not slaughtered at licensed slaughterhouse, trader fined RM2,000

A trader was fined RM2,000 by the Selayang Magistrate’s Court here today for possession of a 361-kg carcass of a cow that was found to have been slaughtered at an unlicensed slaughterhouse.
Magistrate Nik Mohd Fadil Nik Azlan meted out the fine on Azzamuddin Ishak, 46, who pleaded guilty to the charge.
He paid the fine.
He was charged under the Animals Act 1953 with violating Rule 5(3) of the Animals (Control of Slaughter) Rules 2009 with having the cow carcass at a slaughter shed in Kampung Ternak Ayam, Sungai Bakau, Rawang here at 5.30 am on Oct 13 last year.
In mitigation, Azzamuddin, unrepresented, said he had no fixed income and had only started his business.
Prosecuting officer from the Selangor Veterinary Service Department Mohammad Firdaus Mat Ludin prosecuted.
