COVID-19: Slight drop in daily cases with 2,033 new cases, 5 deaths

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia registered a total of 2,033 new daily COVID-19 cases as of midnight Thursday (June 16), with all of it consisting of local transmissions.
The overall total now stands 4,534,665 since the pandemic started in March 2020.
New cases according to states are as follows:
Four states have reported a three-digit mark led by Selangor which had 685 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (551), Penang (167) and Perak (116).
Sabah reported 99 infections, followed by Negeri Sembilan (94), Johor (68), Kedah (62), Malacca (59), Sarawak (38), Putrajaya (37), Pahang (28), Kelantan (17),
Terengganu recorded eight cases and Perlis had four.
No infections were reported in Labuan.
Currently, active cases stood at 24,577, up 6.7 per cent compared to 14 days ago.
Meanwhile, a total of 1,337 individuals recovered and were discharged, taking the total number of recoveries in the country to 4,474,358.
There are 959 patients hospitalised of whom 32 are in the intensive care unit (ICU), with 18 requiring breathing assistance.
According to the Ministry of Health (MOH), another five COVID-related deaths were reported yesterday, of which three were classified as Brought-In-Dead (BID).
So far the country has lost a total of 35,730 people to the virus.
