PUTRAJAYA:Malaysia recorded a total of 801 new infections, making the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in the country currently at 29,441 cases.

Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said out of the total, two cases of imports received infection from abroad while the rest were domestic transmission.

“Two cases of imports received infection from abroad involving one citizen and one non-citizen.

"The number of active cases with COVID-19 infectivity is now 10,123 cases," he said in a daily press conference on the development of COVID-19 on Wednesday.

According to Dr Noor Hisham, the state of Sabah recorded 546 cases (68.2 per cent) within 24 hours, while the states in the Klang Valley recorded an increase of 103 new cases.

He also said that within 24 hours, eight new deaths were recorded, bringing the total number of death cases in the country to 246 cases (0.8 per cent of the total cases).

Commenting on the cases being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), he said so far, there were 94 cases being treated and out of that number, 25 cases needed respiratory assistance.

Malaysia also recorded 573 cases that have fully recovered, bringing the total number of cases recovered to 19,072 cases which is equivalent to 64.8 per cent.
