COVID-19: 847 new cases, five deaths reported - Health D-G

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded 847 new COVID-19 cases and five deaths as of noon today, making the total number of cumulative deaths in Malaysia due to the plague currently at 193 cases.

At the same time, Malaysia also recorded 486 recovery cases, making the cumulative number of cases fully recovered from COVID-19 at 15,417 cases (64.8 per cent of the total cases).

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of cases in Malaysia is at 22,225 cases, with active infectious cases increasing to 7,681.

All the new cases today were local infections involving 745 citizens and 124 non-citizens.

“Sabah still recorded the highest new infections with 578 cases (68.2 per cent). This is the result of hard work carried out where more health workers have been mobilised from the Peninsular and also from within the state of Sabah to continue screening in the field.

“At the same time, more tests RT-PCR laboratories have been conducted in Sabah and sent to the Peninsular, in addition to the RTK Antigen screening test for testing conducted immediately in the field,” he said in a media conference at the Ministry of Health (MOH) today.

In the Klang Valley, 164 new cases were recorded, and out of that number, 71 cases are from the existing and new clusters.

“Out of 847 new cases reported, five are imported cases, involving non-citizens,” he added.

Dr Noor Hisham said, overall, 13 cases were from the Reman Prison Cluster, Tembok Cluster and from the screening in Taiping Prison and Tapah Prison.

Detailing the number of cases, Dr Noor Hisham said Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory recorded 23 cases, Putrajaya (four cases), Kedah (three cases), Perak (14 cases), Penang (10 cases), Labuan Federal Territory (29 cases), Negeri Sembilan (38 cases), Melaka (three cases), Kelantan (three cases), Pahang (two cases), Terengganu (one case), Johor (one case) and Sarawak (one case).

‘’From the total cases today, 11 cases were those returning from Sabah, making the number of cases reportedly having a history of visits to Sabah since Sept 20, 2020 at 465 cases,’’ he said.

MOH had also identified six new COVID-19 clusters, which is Tinusa Cluster, Sauh Cluster, Jambu Cluster, Sofi Cluster, Bah Mutiara Cluster and Umboo Cluster.

To date, 90 positive COVID-19 cases were being treated in the Intensive Care Units (ICU), with 29 cases needing respiratory aid.
