Civil servants are now seen to be the main target of certain parties in fraud cases involving housing loan and business schemes.

A leader of the Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association (PPIM), Datuk Nadzim Johan said based on reports received by the association, 60 per cent of victims in fraud cases involved civil servants.

"These irresponsible parties choose civil servants as targets as it is easy for civil servants to qualify for financial loan," he told reporters at a Campaign Against Fraudsters press conference here, on Thursday.

The campaign, to run throughout this year and initiated by PPIM in collaboration with the Congress of Unions of Employees in Public and Civil Services (CUEPACS), was aimed to stop irresponsible parties from cheating consumers.

"We are aware that people have the desire to own private assets such as a house, car and start a business but they should be careful and check the background of the parties concerned so as not to be easily deceived," he said.
