The Malaysian Civil Defense Force (MCDF) is set to renew several of its assets to ensure rescue operations can be carried out more effectively, says Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Special Functions) Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof.

He said a proposal over the matter had been submitted to the government.

"In an effort to improve the performance in assisting and managing disasters with other agencies, MCDF will add or change some vehicles, which involves the purchase of four-wheel-drive vehicles as well as new ambulances for use by personnel within this year," he told Bernama after a meeting with the director and personnel of the Pahang MCDF here yesterday.

Commenting on the acquisition of helicopters, Mohd Redzuan said his department was looking at whether to make a purchase or rent from established suppliers in Malaysia.

"We are discussing with established suppliers in Malaysia to get the best possible value for the services required," he said.
