Chinese PM pays courtesy call on Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri

The Prime Minister of the People's Republic of China, Li Keqiang, Sunday paid a courtesy call on the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Melaka Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob at a hotel in Bandaraya Melaka here.
Li, who was accompanied by wife, Cheng Hong, arrived at 5.30 pm and was greeted on arrival by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron.
The Chinese Prime Minister met Mohd Khalil for about 15 minutes, during which they discussed the close relationship between China and Melaka, forged since the era of the Melaka Malay Sultanate hundreds of years ago.
Also present were Mohd Khalil's wife, Toh Puan Zurina Kassim; Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai; Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and the state executive councillors.
After that, Li attended a briefing on development projects in Melaka, like the Melaka Gateway and Maritime Industrial Park, which was given by Idris.
The state government had also arranged several other programmes for Li, including visits to Jonker Walk, Cheng Ho Museum and the Baba and Nyonya Museum.
Li arrived in Kuala Lumpur last Friday (Nov 20) for the ASEAN-China Summit which was held in the federal capital yesterday.
On Sept 21 this year, Melaka and Guangdong signed a memorandum of understanding for the establishment of State and Provincial Friendship and Cooperation.
Melaka is targetting to attract investments worth RM20 million from China within the next 10 years.
