Famous local cartoonist, Datuk Mohammad Nor Khalid or better known as Lat on Saturday called for every race in Malaysia to get together and unite among themselves.

Citing the title and lyrics of a Beatles song, "We Can Work it Out", he said that life is short and there is no time for fighting.

"We must get together with one another like the old days. Life is short... just like the lyrics in The Beatles song - We can work it out. Life is very short, and there's no time for fussing and fighting, my friend," said Lat.

Racial unity has always been included in Lat's work which often tells about the lives of Malaysians from all races and walks of life such as 'The Kampung Boy' which was published in 1979.

Meanwhile, Lat also urged cartoonists in the country to play a role in reminding people to mix around, laugh and joke among themselves.

"We must channel our daily lives with laughter and jokes considering that our lives nowadays have much been drawn to politics. Sense of together is important and art practitioners can play this important role," he said.

Lat earlier officiated a book entitled 'Apa Cerita?' by Ahmad Hilmy Abdullah or Mie.
