Calm descends on Low Yat Plaza

Calm prevailed at Low Yat Plaza and the surrounding vicinity on Monday morning following a riot that broke out on Jalan Bukit Bintang, here shortly after midnight.
Based on checks by Astro AWANI, roads leading to the plaza are open as usual to traffic. The usually-bustling area is calm, with light security presence.
Clashes occurred shortly after midnight at 12.05am, after a crowd made up of over 100 men gathered at an intersection of a hotel located near Low Yat Plaza early Monday.

Security forces including the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) arrived at the scene moments later to calm the mob and expanded fortifications around the area. By 12.40am, the crowd slowly dispersed.
Meanwhile, the Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Tajudin Md Isa said police has detained three more individuals, aged 22 to 25 years old.

Tajudin said they were detained after they tried to engage in provocative acts during a gathering outside the plaza.
He also gave his assurance that police will carry out an investigation that is transparent and fair to the parties concerned.
"The public is advised not to listen, believe or spread rumours on social media. Rely on the police for information," he added.
