Bukit Aman orders policeman who accidentally shot boy suspended

Perak Police chief Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the directive was made on Friday and a letter on the suspension was expected to be received next week.

"The letter will be handed to the policeman concerned. How long he is to be suspended will depend on the situation but normally it depends on the duration of the hearing.

But I believe the case will be given priority," he told reporters after handing over prizes to winners of the Inspector-General of Police Cup Golf Competition, here today.

In another development, he said the investigation paper on the case had been submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor last week.

"Our investigation encompasses numerous procedures including having firearm while on leave, not surrendering firearm to the armoury and not complying with procedure when emptying the firearm," he said.

In the incident, Mohd Amar Mohd Azizi was injured from a shot when a police sergeant was emptying an automatic P99 Walther pistol when it went off in front of a house in Kampung Belanja Kiri, Parit.

Mohd Amar successfully underwent a surgery to take out the slug on Oct 20.

Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital neurosurgery consultant Dr Cheang Chee Keong was reported to have said that the victim was fortunate because the bullet did not hit his spinal chord or voice box as he could have become paralysed or mute.
