A bodyguard and an unemployed man believed to be responsible for several car break-ins and stealing items belonging to victims who were fast asleep or drunk in their cars around the Klang Valley, were nabbed in Bandar Puteri here on Tuesday.
Serdang police chief ACP Megat Mohd Aminuddin Megat Alias said the men, in their 20s and 40s, were apprehended when attempting to cart away items belonging to a private sector worker who was asleep in his car at 1.30am.
"The Serdang Special Team was patrolling the area when they spotted the car of the suspects parked beside the victim in front of a convenient store.
"While being observed by police, one of the suspects came out of their car before proceeding to open the door of the victim's car and tried to take several items from the victim," he said at a media conference at Serdang police headquarters here Friday.
Megat Mohd Aminuddin said police picked up the two men who tried to flee as soon as the victim shouted for help.
He said police also seized car window breaking equipment, mobile phones, the victim's mobile phone and key to a Honda CRV belonging to one of the two men.
Further checks found the bodyguard, in his 40s, had one previous criminal record.
"The duo are believed to started their crime spree one year ago and we are still tracking down other suspects using the same modus operandi.
"The syndicate targeted drunk individuals sleeping in their cars but the total number of victims have yet to be ascertained," he said.
