The body found during a search-and-rescue (SAR) operation at Mount Damavand, Iran was today confirmed to be Syed Redzuan Syed Salim Shatri, 50, who was reported missing since Nov 20.
Expedition leader, Rozaimi Mohd Said said his friend Mohd Khafiz Bachok who was involved in the SAR operation, had made the confirmation.
"Mohd Khafiz is bringing out the body found at the location. Please say the Al-Fatihah for the late Syed Redzuan," he said via WhatsApp from Reyneh town at the foot of Mount Damavand.
Rozaimi said the SAR operation would continue tomorrow to search for the other missing Malaysian climber, Ramli Abd Majid, 44.
Meanwhile, Syed Redzuan's wife, Yuszahanim Yusoff said she was trying to bring his remains back to Malaysia as soon as possible with the assistance of the Malaysian embassy in Tehran.
She said her husband's body was found at the Yakhar Glacier, Mount Damavand after six days of the SAR operation.
"May his soul be blessed and be placed among the pious," she said.
Earlier, Rozaimi was reported as saying that a body clad in a red jacket, black pants and hiking boots was found at Yakhar.
Syed Redzuan and Ramli were confirmed missing at the 5,610m-high mountain area after having been separated from the other expedition team members.
Meanwhile, based on Iran's Mizan News, the Foreign Ministry confirmed that a body was found by the SAR team while searching for the two missing Malaysian hikers at Mount Damarvand.
The ministry through the Malaysian embassy in Iran is in close contact with the local authorities to assist in the identification process and will update on the matter accordingly. -- BERNAMA
