The body of a man was found afloat in the vicinity of the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority jetty near Kemunting here yesterday.

Several fishermen stumbled on the deceased, believed to be a local Indian, in his 30s, about 2pm.

Kuantan police chief ACP Mohd Jasmani Yusoff said initial inspection of the body indicated several wounds, believed to have been inflicted with a sharp weapon.

He said there was no identification document on the victim whose demise was initially classified as 'sudden death'.

"We are waiting for the post-mortem report. Should there be elements of foul play, the case will be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he said when contacted here today.

He said the body was sent to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital here.
