KUALA LUMPUR: Bilateral ties between Turkiye and Malaysia are developing and deepening in every field, the Turkish parliament speaker said in a meeting with Malaysia's king in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.
Turkiye is keen to increase bilateral trade with Malaysia "in a balanced way," Anadolu Agency reported Mustafa Sentop told King Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
He said the two sides have also displayed "a common will to improve inter-parliamentary relations and cooperation."
Sentop and a Turkish parliamentary delegation met the monarch at the Istana Negara, the Malaysian royal palace.
Earlier in the day, the Turkish parliament speaker delivered an address on the global justice system at the International Islamic University of Malaysia.
In his speech, Sentop pointed out that weak rule of law and judicial failings are among the world's most pressing problems today.
"As Turkiye, we have repeatedly said that 'a new and just world is possible.' We believe this can be achieved with a greater understanding of the law, integrated with values, beliefs, conscience, and morals," he said.
He also touched on the war in Ukraine, saying that Turkiye has pointed out on "many occasions that international law has been violated" during the ongoing conflict, the report added.
Sentop's visit to Malaysia also included meetings with Azhar Azizan Harun and Rais Yatim, heads of the lower and upper chambers of Malaysia's parliament, on Tuesday.
He will now head to Indonesia's capital Jakarta for the 8th G20 Parliamentary Speakers' Summit on Oct 6 to 7.
