BEWARE, sometimes the motorcycle spare parts that you buy in online marketplace portal like e-mudah.com are not genuine or legal. You might end up with possessing stolen goods.
This was the discovery that has been made by the police when they busted a motorcycle theft gang dubbed as “Honda Gang” after they arrested three men in Klang recently.
South Klang district police chief, ACP Mohamad Mat Yusop said the bust down began at 9.15pm on Tuesday night when police spotted a man acting suspiciously near a supermarket at Jalan Kampung Jawa here.
“The suspect tried to run when police approached him and there was a scuffle. The man was arrested and police found two pieces of modified hex keys inside the pocket of his trousers,” said Mohamad.
Initial investigation found that the 21-year-old mechanic is a former detainee under the Emergency Ordinance a year ago. He was on the verge of stealing a motorcycle in the area and the motorcycle was due to be delivered to a man by the name of Faiz.
An hour later, police was taken by the suspect to a house at Jalan Kota Raja, Klang where they arrested a man aged 22 and seized two stolen motorcycle engine which was reported missing early this year in Klang.
“Then around 1.15am, on the next day, we went to another house in Jalan Sungai Jati, Klang where we arrested a man aged 21 which we believe is the mastermind of the gang known as ‘Honda’ among his accomplices due to his obsession with Honda brand,” he said.
Police also found five motorcycles including four of its engines, two motorcycle body parts and several components and spare parts of the motorcycles which had been ‘cannibalised’ by the syndicate members.
“The gang have been active since early this year and they will not only strike on Honda motorcycles but other brands like Kawasaki, Yamaha and Suzuki too. Some of the spare parts will be sold at online marketplaces like e-mudah.com with reasonable prices,” said Mohamad.
Police believed that the gang have been involved in more than 20 cases of motorcycle thefts in North Klang, Shah Alam and Petaling Jaya.
With the arrest of the suspects, it is believed that nine motorcycle theft cases including two in South Klang have also been solved.
The suspects are remanded until December 12 for further investigation.
