KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) must continue to be prepared to remain competitive and maintain its credibility as the best news provider, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
He said that apart from keeping abreast with current technologies in delivering information, Bernama should constantly improve its services in becoming an effective media of the government.
"Excellence has no limit, there is always room for improvement but the most important thing is that I hope Bernama can also appreciate national aspirations, and the government's plans and visions so that it can help to convey the message (to the people).
"In the Malaysian Family context, we want everyone to be onboard, (including) the government, the opposition, the people, government agencies and the private sector," he said after a closed-door briefing session during his first official visit to Wisma Bernama yesterday.
Annuar took the oath of office as Communications and Multimedia Minister at Istana Negara on Aug 30.
He said Bernama is facing a huge challenge with the existence of news portals where everyone can now be a reporter.
Therefore, he reminded Bernama reporters to adopt the best work culture so that it remains a credible news provider.
On hand to receive him were Bernama Chairman Senator Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi, Chief Executive Officer Datuk Mokhtar Hussain and Editor-in-Chief Abdul Rahman Ahmad.
Earlier in a post on his Facebook page, Annuar said he visited Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) to see the latest developments of the Media City in Angkasapuri and discussed improvements that RTM could implement to keep up with the times.
