The police need more time to identify the suspect of the toddler's murder on Thursday, said Kuala Lumpur CID chief SAC Gan Kong Meng.
Verifying the suspect's fingerprint could not be done at the National Registration Department and the Criminal Registration Centre as yesterday was a weekend.
"Police are still waiting for the results of the autopsy report. The media must understand that we cannot afford to make an error as it can affect our investigation," he said in a statement here Sunday night.
Gan said the police have yet to identify the real motive for the murder of the toddler (girl) aged two years and six months.
"The police investigation will cover all angles, including recorded footage of the parents and those who knew the victim's family," he added.
The toddler was found with the head severed, believed by the suspect, on the banks of Sungai Klang near Kuala Lumpur Commuter Station in Jalan Hishamuddin.
Witnesses claimed seeing a man smashing the toddler's head and when they tried to approach, the suspect fled and jumped into the river.
The male suspect was found floating in Sungai Klang near Sunway toll plaza at 3pm Saturday.
