The Malaysian Armed Forces are ready to face the worst-case flood scenario in Kelantan and Terengganu due to continuous heavy rain.
Its chief, General Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor said assets such as helicopters and military personnel had been deployed to various flood locations.
"We will increase the manpower from time to time as several divisions had been placed on standby," he said.
Raja Mohamed also said that besides Kelantan and Terengganu, the army was also monitoring the situation in Pahang for the danger of flooding.
"We are working closely with the Meteorological Department and receiving daily briefings from those on the ground daily. We have also laid out a contingency plan for everything," he said.
As of this morning, the number of flood evacuees in Kelantan had risen from 12,400 last night to 12,636 and the number is expected to rise.
In Terengganu, however, the number of flood victims declined from 9,816 to 8,313 early this morning.
"We are prepared for everything following the worst flood in 2014. I believe the flood management this time is much better. We will do the best we can," said Raja Mohamed Affandi. - Bernama
