Anwar's letter claiming to have support of 131 MPs begins to spread

KUALA LUMPUR: A letter from the office of the President of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan), Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim spread on social media claiming to have the support and a strong majority of 131 Members of the Dewan Rakyat to be appointed as the 9th Prime Minister.

The contents of the letter dated October 12 using the office address of the President of Keadilan was sent to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

The letter involved, among others, claimed that the Port Dickson Member of Parliament submitted a letter from the leaders of political parties as well as a sworn statement of the Members of the Dewan Rakyat in private.

"Following my letter to His Majesty Seri Padukan Baginda Tuanku dated 22nd September 2020 (Ref: POL / 001/220920) as well as my media statement on 23rd September 2020.

"I humbly ask Duli Tuanku for the purpose of submitting a letter from the leaders of political parties as well as the sworn affidavit of the Members of the House of Representatives privately confirming that I as the Member of Parliament for Port Dickson (P132) has obtained and has strong and convincing support and confidence of the 131 Members of the Dewan Rakyat to be appointed as the 9th Prime Minister, "according to the contents of the letter.

The support involves Members of the House of Representatives of Parti Keadilan Rakyat, UMNO, Parti Amanah Negara, the Democratic Action Party and a Member of the Dewan Rakyat and other parties personally.

"So with this, YAB Tan Sri Datuk Muhyiddin Bin Hj Mohd Yassin, Member of Parliament for Pagoh (P143) has clearly lost the support and trust of the majority of Members of the House of Representatives in accordance with Article 43 (4) of the Federal Constitution and I have gained and have the support and trust the majority of the Members of the House of Representatives to be appointed as the Prime Minister of Malaysia KLe-9 in accordance with Article 43 (2) (a) of the Federal Constitution, "according to the contents of the letter.

The letter was also written that Anwar was confident that the Sarawak Parti Dewan Rakyat (GPS), Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) and Pertubuhan Kinabalu Progresif Bersatu members would follow immediately to give support and trust to him, thus bringing the total support of 158 Dewan Rakyat Members.

In accordance with Article 43 (2) (a) of the Federal Constitution, Anwar applied for the opportunity and was appointed as the 9th Prime Minister to uphold the country's political stability and lead the country's economic development while controlling the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic until the end of the 14th Parliamentary Session.

The letter was also signed by the President of Keadilan.
