Another Malaysian soldier injured in gunbattle

A Malaysian soldier was injured in a gun battle in Kampung Tanjung Batu yesterday morning.
Armed Forces Chief General Tan Sri Mohd Zulkifeli Mohd Zin said the soldier sustained injuries on his his wrist after a bullet struck him there.
“The incident happened around 11.30am today. He underwent a surgery to remove the bullet and is safe now,” he said at a press conference in Felda Sahabat today.
Zulkifeli said another gun battle took place around noon in which the security forces shot dead one Sulu gunman and arrested a woman from the intruder group.
“We have also brought out two other dead bodies from the operation area today,” he said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said so far a total of 30 bodies have been brought out of the battle area.
He said two of the latest bodies retrieved have been sent for post mortem and DNA profiling.
Yesterday, Khalid said the bodies of 28 Sulu terrorists, now kept at the mortuaries of the Lahad Datu Hospital and Tawau Hospital, will be given burials pending claims by relatives.
“A total of 108 people have been arrested under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) and 268 people have been arrested under other Acts,” he said.
On another matter, Khalid said the police and the army has asked the assistance of the National Security Council (MKN) to conduct a damage assessment in the operation areas especially Kampung Tanduo.
“After that we will decide when can we allow the people there to return to their residence,” he said.
