Investigation on them revealed there was a plot to launch an attack on assets of national interest, interests of the west and public spots.
Police have arrested three individuals following a so-called terrorist threat at a certain location in the federal
capital.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said they comprised a local man as well as an Indonesian and a Syrian national.
Noor Rashid said all three were detained to assist in investigations.
"Bukit Aman has contacted the embassies of the United States and Australia on the security level at that particular location relating to the possibility of terrorist attacks taking place," he told Bernama here today.
Yesterday, the United States Embassy and Australian High Commission here were reported to have issued a travel advisory on the possibility of terrorist attacks taking place in Jalan Alor near Bukit Bintang and its surrounding areas.
Noor Rashid reiterated that the security situation was under control and the people needed not be worried about their safety.
"I have directed my personnel to be on duty at that particular location to monitor any suspicious activities," said Noor Rashid.
Meanwhile Noor Rashid in a statement today said the arrest was an ongoing effort based on information obtained from the arrested suspects.
Investigation on them revealed there was a plot to launch an attack on assets of national interest, interests of the west and public spots.
"The suspects, aged between 30 to 51 years, included two foreigners with one of them found to have frequently visited Yemen and detected to have entered Malaysia several days ago.
"Investigations are still ongoing to confirm if all three of them are involved in a plot to launch an attack in Malaysia," he said.
The police are conducting ongoing surveillance in tandem with current development to ensure the nation's interest and security are safeguarded, he said.
This included stepping up security surveillance at strategic places and public areas.
"All the three suspects were arrested under the Penal Code (Act 572) Chapter VIA-Offences relating to terrorism and will be investigated in accordance to procedures under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Act 747).
"Meanwhile the travel advisory issued by several foreign embassies in Kuala Lumpur is aimed at ensuring the safety of their citizens while in foreign countries. This is a universal practice being practised by every country for their own citizens' safety wherever they are," he added.
