Adenan says he has 'unfinished business'

Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem has 'unfinished business' and is determined to get them done in the next five years.

"So many other things we want to do because we have been backward as compared to West Malaysia... Sarawak is the biggest state but we are behind in terms of infrastructure development.

"That was the reason why I asked for another five more years to be the Sarawak chief minister, and not that I gila pangkat (crazy for post)," he said.

He was speaking as guest of honour at the Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) 64th annual dinner at a leading hotel, Friday night.

Adenan said Sarawak needed to catch up as it had been left behind in the past 50 years, adding that 50 years was a long time.

"I am not saying there was no progress in Sarawak but what we have here now is not enough," he said.

He also pledged he would continue to fight for what the state government had demanded from the federal government and urged the Sarawak business community to play an active role and become the driving force behind the state economy.

Adenan urged them to participate in the gas and oil sector, saying that Petronas had agreed to give Sarawak companies priority in awarding contracts.

The resources (gas and oil) are in Sarawak and we should be active players in the industry...not spectators, he said.
