71 families affected by the mud floods and landslides in Cameron Highlands in November, have received RM35,500 in aid.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said the financial aid was given through the National Disaster Relief Trust Fund managed by the National Security Council, Prime Minister's Department.

"Each family received RM500, based on the list of victims issued by the Social Welfare Department after the Cameron Highlands district officer confirmed it.

"This financial assistance is not a form of compensation but to help lessen the burden of the victims who incurred losses in the disaster."

Shahidan said this in his reply to a question from Senator Datuk Roslin Abdul Rahman in the Dewan Negara, here, today.

In the incident on Nov 5 in Cameron Highlands, five people were killed and five others injured, while several residents had to be evacuated to the Ringlet community hall.
