KTMB tickets are highly popular during the festive season as the transportation allows users to avoid traffic congestion on the road and save time.
Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) has sold 65 percent of the 169,000 tickets for the Aidiladha, Malaysia Day and school holidays.
Its president Datuk Sarbini Tijan said the tickets were for the Intercity and Electric Train Service (ETS).
"The tickets receive high demand due to the comfortable service and cheaper prices," he told reporters after opening the Local Fruits, Agro-based Products and AIT FAMA Products Festival at the Kuala Lumpur Railway Station here today.
Sarbini said the train service was well received because users could avoid traffic congestion and save time.
"For example, the journey from the Kuala Lumpur Railway Station to Butterworth (Penang) will only take between three and four hours," he said.
He added that tickets could be purchased from counters as well as via online and mobile phone application.
Meanwhile, Sarbini said two million Intercity and ETS tickets for next year's Chinese New Year holidays had been on sale since Aug 17.
