Fifty individuals, including one with a title 'Datuk' are being investigated over the alleged misappropriation of funds meant for repairing the houses of flood victims in Kelantan.

Kelantan Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) director Datuk Abd Aziz Aban said the funds were supposed to be used to help repair 411 houses in Tanah Merah.

“Some of the 411 households involved felt that the assistance they received were less than the value awarded. We are also investigating six contractors and nine sub-contractors regarding the RM880,000 budget entrusted to repair the houses.

“We found that only RM550,000 had been used while the remaining amount was believed to have been embezzled by a third party,” he said.

Following the alleged misappropriation, MACC seized cash worth RM225,000 from one account and another RM100,000 cash from a third party.

Abd Aziz said, a 52-year-old man was arrested on March 4 to assist investigations under Section 16 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Act 2009.

MACC began its investigation the alleged misappropriation of funds since February after receiving complaints from flood victims.
