The Civil Defence Department (JPAM) is ready to deploy 49,800 regular members and volunteers to aid flood relief operations.
Its deputy director-general (Operations), Selamat Dahlan said 11,800 members can be mobilised within two hours of flooding, while the rest are volunteers who can be called to assist in follow-up operations.
"JPAM has placed all its manpower and assets on standby for the floods. I am confident they can do a good job as they have attended disaster management courses," he said after launching the Melaka Community District Emergency Response Team (CDERT) on behalf of JPAM director-general Datuk Zaitun Ab Samad here, today.
In addition to volunteers from the general public, they will also mobilise volunteers, comprising undergraduates, to aid flood relief operations.
