34-year-old man rapes 90-year-old woman in Australian old age home

SYDNEY: In Australia, a 34-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the rape of a 90-year-old woman in an aged care home in the town of Bateau Bay, about 100 kilometres north of Sydney, reported German news agency (dpa).

The suspect entered the building in the east coast holiday town and attacked the woman there in the early hours of Wednesday last week, the Australian Guardian reported on Tuesday, citing police.

The head of the sex crimes unit, Jayne Doherty, spoke of a "horrendous" act and said that attacking a defenceless old lady in the safety of her home in this way was unthinkable.

The victim was traumatised and had also suffered serious injuries, she added. The woman is being cared for by her family and medical staff at a hospital. The suspected attacker was arrested in the nearby town of The Entrance on Monday.
