A total of 64 electricity-linked accidents involving 27 deaths were recorded nationwide last year.
Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) general manager (transmission planning, transmission division) Abdul Rahim Omar said among the main causes was the installation and maintenance that did not meet safe work procedures.
He said that last year, 18 such cases were recorded in Kelantan.
"However, no electrical accident was recorded in the education sector since 2012, whether at schools or institutes of higher learning," he told reporters at the Kelantan Electrical Safety Awareness 2015 ceremony at the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Pak Badol here today.
The event, which was attended by 300 students and teachers from 18 schools in the Bachok district was officiated by state education director Hussain Awang.
Abdul Rahim said a total of 10,000 teachers and students from about 2,000 schools in Peninsular Malaysia had participated in a campaign since 2008, which was aimed at disseminating information and cultivating awareness on the importance of electricity at school-level.
