2,215 summonses issued in Perak RTD 'Op Tahun Baharu Cina'

Perak Road Transport Department (RTD) issued 2,215 traffic summonses during a 16-day operation it conducted in conjunction with Chinese New Year 2017.
Its director Mohd Zawawi Zakaria said the operation from Jan 21 till Feb 5 was mounted at several locations particularly accident-prone areas.
"The summonses were issued for various offences including under the vehicle use prohibition," he told reporters after a cross-border operation in Seri Manjung District at Kilometer 3, Jalan Sitiawan-Lumut here last night.
The RTD operation began yesterday with the cooperation of the Royal Malaysian Police, National Anti-Drug Agency and Manjung Immigration Department.
On the 8pm to 12am operation, Mohd Zawawi said RTD issued 266 summonses for various offences.
"The offences include road tax expiry, driving without a licence, no insurance coverage and technical (vehicle).
"We also issued 21 vehicle inspection notices, 15 vehicle use prohibition notices and two driver's particulars notices," he said.
Mohd Zawawi said four motorcycles without valid road tax were also seized and three foreigners were detained for driving without a CDL (competent driving licence). -- Bernama
