1000 left homeless after squatters colony razed by fire in Tawau

Nearly 1,000 people were left homeless when more than 100 squatters were destroyed in a fire at Kampung Titingan, Tawau, Sabah on Wednesday.
According to the state Fire and Rescue Department, they received an emergency call at 1.33am and arrived at the scene five minutes later.
Open water source was obtained from the river and near a fire hydrant and was assisted by Tawau Municipal Council machinery.
Firefighters experienced difficulties due to the narrow passages leading to the location and low water pressure.
So far, no casualties were reported. Police said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
