MTV-owned music channel VH1 is to start work next month on a biopic about R&B girl band TLC. The fiction will look back on the career of the Atlanta trio that sold over thirty million albums worldwide.

TLC, a band made up of Lisa Lopes, Tionne Watkins and Rozonda Thomas, made its mark on the world during the 1990s and released four albums between 1992 and 2002. The band best known for hits such as "Creep," "No Scrubs" and "Waterfalls" won many awards and had a huge following.

The worldwide success of "Ooooooohhh... On the TLC Tip," "CrazySexyCool" and "FanMail" was shattered when Lisa Lopes, aka LeftEye, was killed in a car crash in Honduras in 2002. The remaining two members released the band's fourth and final album, "3D," seven months later.

In "Crazy, Sexy, Cool: The TLC Story," named after the group's second album and biggest success, the trio will be played by rapper Lil Mama, singer/actress Drew Sidora ("Sexy Dance") and Keke Palmer ("Ice Age 4").

The film will be directed by music video director Charles Stone III. The screenplay was written by Kate Lanier, the author of musical films "Glitter," about Mariah Carey, and "Tina," a film about Tina Turner's life and career. Tionne Watkins and Rozonda Thomas will act as consultants for the biopic.
