Call it grown-up play dates.
Rock bands Daughtry and 3 Doors Down are getting together for a co-headlining tour. Good friends Chris Daughtry and 3 Doors lead singer Brad Arnold say it's the only way they can hang out these days.
"It's something that we've wanted to do for a long time," said Arnold. "Chris and I have been friends for years, and just conflicting schedules and we're both always on tour, it's never been able to work out in the past. A few months ago we just got together and said, 'Let's Do this.'"
"I think it was about wanting to hang out more than just one day," added Daughtry. "We're like, 'Oh, I guess the only way to do that is to do a tour.' We've done a couple shows together in the past, and we've always talked about doing a tour. So we're very happy to finally make that happen, and I think our fans have been wanting it for a long time as well."
The two singers first met shortly after Daughtry finished fourth on "American Idol" in 2006. They became fast friends.
"I was writing for my first record, and Brad and I got together and wrote a couple songs. We've yet to record those and put them out, but we talk about it all the time," said Daughtry. "We just hit it off. I remember that day going, 'Hey man, we should do a tour together.' That was 6-7 years ago. So we're finally making it happen."
The 19-date U.S. tour kicked off November 17th in Tunica, Mississippi. It features opening band P.O.D. The tour continues through mid-December.
"It's just going to be fun, a lot of interaction between the bands, because there's a lot of camaraderie between the two bands," said Arnold. "I really think it's going to shine through on the performances, and I'm really excited for people to see it."
3 Doors Down recently released its first ever Greatest Hits package featuring nine No. 1s, including "Kryptonite," It's Not My Time," and "Here Without You." Daughtry is known for hits such as "Home," "It's Not Over," and "Feels Like Tonight," as well as the band's new single "Start of Something Good."
"There's going to be a lot of recognisable songs played that night between the three bands: P.O.D., and us two," said Daughtry. "I think people's heads are gonna explode from all the familiarity."
