VETERAN broadcaster, Ferrari collector and radio DJ Chris Evans is leaving the BBC's flagship motoring show after just one season.
On Monday, following reports that the first season of "Top Gear" not to feature Jeremy Clarkson, James May or Richard Hammond had failed to attract a significantly large audience, Evans tweeted that the show was over, for him at least: "Stepping down from Top Gear. Gave it my best shot but sometimes that's not enough," he wrote.

Stepping down from Top Gear. Gave it my best shot but sometimes that's not enough. The team are beyond brilliant, I wish them all the best.

Filling the void left by the show's original lineup was going to be a huge task and much of the criticism that the new-look show has received since returning to screens in May has been directed at Evans himself.
On Monday, the sign-up page for Clarkson, May and Hammond's social network for car fans, Drivetribe went live, and the trio's first motoring show since the Top Gear debacle, "The Grand Tour," will be coming to screens as an Amazon exclusive this fall.
