Indonesian singer and actress Agnes Monica’s performance in Konser Raya 21 on Monday has drawn brickbats from social media users in the Republic after she appeared donning a transparent skirt with Arabic phrases.
The performance showed the sultry entertainer joining the ranks of other Indonesian popular entertainers to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the TV station.
The singer performed her latest single, Boy Magnet wearing an all-black transparent outfit with Arabic phrases sewn at the bottom of the skirt.
Netizen started questioning the definition of the Arabic phrases while others expressed their displeasure over her insensitivity for wearing the outfit.

The singer's outfit sponsor, KTZ said the Arabic phrases represent ‘muttahidah’ which defines unity and has nothing to do with any Al-Quran verses.

Baru dapat konfirmasi dari brand KTZ tentang outfit @agnezmo, yang artinya UNITED. #AGNEZMOIndosiar21 pic.twitter.com/89xn83MLkY

Indonesia’s Ulama Council (MUI) when contacted said that the verse is not an insult to Islam.
“There is no element of humiliation. If there had been Al-Quran phrases, then I’d strongly condemn it,” said Central MUI Commissioner Chief, Cholil Nafiz when contacted by detikHOT.
