Prosperity has not been shared by all and the world needs to show human solidarity to address gaps in development, China's Xinhua news agency reported Ban Ki-moon as saying in a message on Tuesday.
To mark the International Human Solidarity Day, which falls on Tuesday, Ban noted inequalities, extreme poverty, unemployment, social exclusion and environmental degradation continue to be prominent features of societies around the world.
"At a time of divisiveness on many key global issues, from armed conflict to forced migration, people need to turn toward each other in common cause, not away from each other in fear," said Ban.
He also asked the international community to ensure inclusiveness and equality by implementing the sustainable development agenda as well as the Paris climate deal to build lives of dignity for all.
International Human Solidarity Day is observed annually on Dec 20. This year's celebration calls for implementing the 17 sustainable development goals to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and ensure dignity for every person. - Bernama
