Namun, tweet itu mencetuskan perdebatan di kalangan netizen Indonesia yang tidak puas hati dengan kenyataan nasi goreng adalah hidangan tempatan Singapura.
Mereka berdebat serta mempertahankan hidangan itu dengan mengatakan nasi goreng berasal dari Indonesia.
Seorang pengguna, Agu Psetyo mendakwa tidak ada perkataan "nasi" dan "goreng" di Singapura, manakala seorang lagi menulis: "Hey Rio, nasi goreng adalah makanan Indonesia, dan nasi goreng adalah bahasa Indonesia!"
