Turkey, Greece earthquake: No Malaysians affected - Wisma Putra

KUALA LUMPUR: The Foreign Ministry last night confirmed that no Malaysians were directly affected by the earthquake that shook Turkey and Greece.
In a statement early Saturday morning, Wisma Putra also informed based on the initial report, Malaysians who are in Izmir are also safe.
"The Foreign Ministry is monitoring the progress following the strong earthquake in the Aegean Sea on Friday.
"The quake has had a devastating effect on the cities of Izmir, Turkey and the island of Samos, Greece.
"The ministry extends its condolences and sympathy to the Turkish government and Greece for the loss of life and injuries caused by the disaster," the statement said.
Malaysia also expressed solidarity with these countries at this difficult time.
Meanwhile, Wisma Putra informed that Malaysians who are currently in Turkey who need help can contact the Malaysian Embassy in Ankara or the Consulate General in Istanbul.
