A taxi plunged into a river in northwest China's Shaanxi Province Thursday evening, killing all five people in the car, China's Xinhua news agency reported local authorities as saying Friday.

The taxi, run by a company in Yanchang County, veered off the road and plunged into the Yanhe River as it was running along a provincial highway to Yan'an City at around 7:30pm, the county government said in a press release.

The taxi driver and all the four passengers in the car were killed, it said.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
