'Running Man' bids farewell to Oppa Lee Kwang Soo after 11 years

THE most-popular Korean variety and game show, Running Man, will soon bid farewell to its youngest and longtime cast member, Lee Kwang Soo.
Fondly nicknamed as ‘Giraffe’ for being the tallest in the cast, the actor has announced that he will be departing from the well-loved show after almost 11 years.
The 35-year-old’s decision to leave the show is influenced by the effect of his car accident in February 2020, which resulted in fractures on his right ankle and was even seen wearing a cast in some "Running Man" episodes.
Kwang Soo's agency King Kong by Starship revealed that “Lee Kwang Soo will be leaving the cast of Seoul Broadcasting System’s (SBS) 'Running Man' after his final recording on May 24.”
The agency said that although he has been steadily undergoing rehabilitation treatment since his injury from the accident “but it has been difficult for him to be in perfect condition during the recordings.”
After the accident took place last year, the agency said there were long discussions between the members, producers.
“It was decided that he will take some time to take care of his body and mind. We sincerely thank you for sending so much love and attention to Lee Kwang Soo on ‘Running Man.” the statement from his agency said.
Running Man is among the long-running Korean variety and game show of SBS. It debuted in July 11, 2010 with cast members Yoo Jae-suk, Gary, Haha, Ji Suk-jin, Kim Jong-kook, Lee Kwang-soo and Song Joong-ki. Its current cast includes Yoo Jae-suk, Haha, Jee Seok-jin, Kim Jong-kook, Jeon So-min, Yang Se-chan and Song Ji-hyo.
Kwang Soo will be missed by millions of fans, as he is not only one of the most-popular cast members on Running Man, but one of the most popular Korean comedians on television.
