The Yang diPertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah has called on the people to help the government to develop the education sector for the nation's future.
He said although it is the government's responsibility to draw up the teaching and learning curriculum, the society also had a significant role in education.
"I urge the wealthy, philanthropists and members of the corporate world to together develop the education sector through waqf shares, contributions and donations," he said during the 75th Maktab Mahmud Alumni charity dinner at the
Kedah Menteri Besar's official residence, Dewan Seri Mentaloon, Alor Setar tonight.
Accompanying him was the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah Hamidun.
Also present were Kedah Council of Regency chairman Tan Sri Tunku Annuar Sultan Badlishah and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak.
Tuanku Abdul Halim said he was also informed that mastering of the Arabic language among religious school students had not been satisfactory.
"I suggest those involved to find a solution to this problem such as employing teachers from the Middle East, as well as creating a environment that can help improve the learning of the language among students," he said.
Tuanku Abdul Halim also congratulated Maktab Mahmud for producing many religious academicians and personalities in its 75 years of existence and its role as a centre for religious and Arabic language to prepare candidates furthering their studies in the Middle East.
