A Brazilian man kidnapped and held for ransom in Colombia was reunited with his family on Thursday.

20-year-old Talisson Da Silva Soares had an emotional reunion with his father at the police headquarters in Medellin, a city northeast of Colombia's capital Bogota.

Colombian authorities say Da Silva was kidnapped on the 6th of January 2013 after agreeing to meet face-to-face with two women whom he had initially met online.

Investigators say Da Silva, a dental student, made contact with two women over the internet and they agreed to meet.

According to General Jose Guzman, regional National Police commander, the meeting at a local shopping mall was a trap to enact Da Silva' kidnapping.

During that meeting "it appears they (the two women) gave him scopolamine (a prescription drug)," said General Guzman

Authorities say Da Silva's captors also made several calls to his relatives asking a ransom of 200 million (m) Colombian pesos (a little more than US $113,000) in exchange for his freedom.

A woman was detained during the rescue operation which took place Wednesday night in Medellin.

"They could be using very beautiful, young women that are used as a hook to lure these persons and bring them to where they will be kidnapped," Guzman said about the kidnappers' modus operandi.
