A Polish couple on vacation in Portugal with their children plunged to their deaths on Saturday, while attempting to snap a selfie on the edge of a cliff.

According to news portal Mashable, investigators believed the couple went past a barrier near the cliff edge of Cabo de Roca for a group selfie with their kids, when they slipped and plummeted off the side of the cliff.

The children, aged 5 and 6, however, were unharmed as they stood in the safety area behind the barrier.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the incident.

The couple's bodies were recovered Monday, after bad weather conditions forced rescue workers to give up their search earlier.

Their children are now in the care of Polish diplomats. They will also be taken to psychologists for counselling to deal with the witnessing their parents' deaths, according to the Independent.

Cabo de Roca is the most western point of Europe, looking out over the Atlantic Ocean.

This is not the first time that selfies have proven to be way more dangerous than they’re worth.

On Aug 5, 21-year-old Oscar Otero Aguilar from Mexico tragically died from a gunshot after taking a selfie with it.

On July 31, Francois Hofer was trampled by a bull in France while trying to take a selfie in front of it. Fortunately, he survived.

In April last year, a reporter for Fox’s Sun Sports, Kelly Nash, just missed a baseball to the head while taking a selfie during the Astros-Red Sox game.
