Bintang ragbi New Zealand, Sonny Bill Williams mencetuskan kontroversi di Twitter setelah berkongsi dua gambar jasad kanak-kanak Syria dalam keadaan mengerikan, lapor The Guardian.
Gambar berkenaan menunjukkan dua jasad kanak-kanak yang kelihatan sudah meninggal dunia dengan kecederaan ngeri di tubuh dan kepala.

“Apa yang telah kanak-kanak ini lakukan sehingga menerima nasib sebegini? Musim panas ini ingatilah nyawa mereka yang tidak berdosa yang terkorban di medan perang,” ujar Williams dalam twit beliau yang disertakan dengan dua gambar tersebut.
Gambar tersebut dimuat naik selepas beliau melawat sebuah kem pelarian di Lembah Bekaa, Lubnan awal Disember lalu sebagai tetamu Unicef New Zealand.
Antara realiti dan sensitiviti
Twit Williams serta-merta mewujudkan dua kem yang hangat mendebatkan kewajaran tindakan pemenang Piala Dunia Ragbi itu.
Kebanyakan warga Twitter meluahkan rasa tidak selesa kerana tindakan tersebut melanggar sensitiviti keluarga dan hak kanak-kanak.

Mereka juga tidak bersetuju gambar ngeri seperti itu disiar oleh Williams kerana beliau mempunyai lebih 500 ribu pengikut di Twitter, termasuklah kanak-kanak.

Namun begitu, ramai juga netizen yang tidak menganggap perbuatan Williams sebagai satu kesalahan.
Rata-rata beranggapan realiti mangsa perang sebagai sesuatu yang perlu didedahkan untuk menimbulkan keinsafan kepada anggota masyarakat yang masih hidup.

Pendirian Unicef New Zealand
Menurut jurucakap Unicef New Zealand, Patrick Rose, organisasi berkenaan sama sekali tidak akan menyebarkan gambar sedemikian.
“Itu bukan proses kami. Kami tidak merakam foto tersebut, dia tidak ada bersama-sama dengan kami ketika foto itu dirakam, dia tidak menemukan foto tersebut ketika menyertai lawatan kami ke Lubnan, dan dia tidak meminta nasihat kami sebelum memuat naik foto tersebut,” tegas Rose.
Pengarah Unicef New Zealand, Vivien Maidaborn yang bersama-sama Williams melawat kem di Lubnan pula berkata tindakan bintang ragbi tersebut menunjukkan beliau berada dalam fasa ‘mempertimbangkan apa yang mampu beliau lakukan’ untuk membantu.
