With the National Environment Agency's (NEA) 24-hour PSI forecast for Monday 2015, to be in the ‘Unhealthy range’, all schools, Ministry of Education (MOE) kindergartens and Voluntary Welfare Organisation-run (VWO-run) special education schools reopen today.

In a statement, MOE said the well-being of all students remains a key priority.

It said schools have in place a set of haze management plans and are ready to implement the appropriate haze management measures.

Schools are also equipped with air purifiers and there are sufficient enclosed spaces to cater to their student population.

As at 8am today, the 24-hour pollutant standard index (PSI) reading was 114 to 134, in the unhealthy range, and the 3-hour PSI was 124.

The 24-hr PSI for the next 24 hours is expected to be in the low to mid-sections of the Unhealthy range, with a possibility of entering the high-section of the Unhealthy range if denser haze is blown in by unfavourable winds.

For today, the prevailing winds are forecast to blow from the south or south-southwest.

Hazy conditions are expected with a possibility of entering the high-section of the unhealthy range if denser haze from Sumatra is blown in by unfavourable winds.
