ANKARA: A Kuwaiti newspaper has introduced an AI-based virtual news anchor as part of a trial phase aimed at utilising artificial intelligence in journalism.

The anchor was named Fedha, a classic Kuwait name meaning silver, and appeared on the Twitter account of Kuwait News website, according to Anadolu Agency.

The introduction of the virtual news anchor marks a significant step in the development of artificial intelligence in journalism and media in the Arab world.

Fedha wore a white shirt and a black jacket, speaking in fluent Arabic.

"I am Fedha, the first AI news anchor in Kuwait, working at the Kuwait News media organisation. What kind of news do you prefer? Let's hear your opinions," she said.

The virtual news anchor, which is still in the testing phase, was developed to take advantage of its benefits in creating new and innovative content, the report added.

Artificial intelligence technology has gained momentum in various sectors and its role is expected to grow in the near future.
