Input by Michael Yuan, CEO of Huawei Malaysia in conjunction with the tabling of the twelfth Malaysia Plan, 2021-2025
IT GOES without saying that Malaysia is on the right track towards a more advanced technological and digital transformation.
Keeping to this consistent momentum, we are hopeful to see significant growth in the country’s Digital Economy in the years to come.
Still, while we are living in an era where advancements in technology are common, we must never be complacent – the case for constant digitalisation and upskilling is glaringly clear.
Therefore, with the tabling of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) on September 27, we at Huawei Malaysia would like to reiterate several key points and to provide our input for the tabling of the 12MP.
As a global technology leader and enabler, Huawei firmly believes that the current era -- which is largely driven and powered by 5G, Cloud and Artificial Intelligence (AI) -- is built on the following pillars: ubiquitous connectivity; pervasive intelligence; digital platforms to enable vertical industries to realise their digital transformation; personal devices for users; and digital energy.
Since establishing our presence on Malaysian shores 20 years ago in 2001, Huawei has remained steadfastly committed to its mission to support the country in its digital journey and growth.
I believe that the 12MP will support more robust 5G network deployment with telcos which are inclusive and open to more industry experts, as this will generate more innovative ideas and attract greater investments, both domestic and foreign.
I believe the strategies that should be considered include retaining flexibility to invite telcos to deliver 5G networks and services in Malaysia.
There must also be transparent accountability and governance measures for the implementation of these strategies.
According to the Huawei Global Industry Vision (GIV), the trend for Cloud Computing will cause most organisations to accelerate their migration to the Cloud by 2025 with 100% of enterprises on the Cloud, and 86% of enterprises using AI.
The government should encourage SMEs to adopt these technologies and make it affordable for them.
Malaysia needs the right policies and regulations to promote Cloud and AI adoption, especially Cloud Alpha Edge provided by Telekom Malaysia Berhad, the only local cloud & AI infrastructure in Malaysia which will ensure data sovereignty.
On our end, Huawei will continue to play its role as a trusted technology and innovation partner that stands alongside the country as it marches ahead to establish a flourishing, progressive and digitally inclusive nation.
We hereby renew our promise to continue serving the country, as it continues its efforts to position itself as the ASEAN Digital Hub, and we are beyond excited to see what more Malaysia can and will achieve.
